The Blue Sea Artisans featured artist for the month of June is multimedia artist Gay Jensen. She will be featuring a new pair of 16-by-20-inch watercolor paintings titled “Up Country Hawaii” showing Waimea horses.

Jensen was born in Michigan where she began her art career and painted in oils. She moved to Hawaii in 1981 and ventured into painting in watercolors. Her work is inspired by her love for the islands and the surrounding beauty it offers. Her diverse creations of original wall art and prints range from watercolors, oils, pastels and silk paintings depicting a wide range of tropical flowers and birds, sunsets, landscapes and sea life.

Jensen’s interest in the history of ancient rock carvings (petroglyph) developed into unique designs on handmade paper featuring Hawaiian petroglyphs and Hula dancers. Jensen has been accepted in many juried shows and has continued her art studies in numerous workshops with well-known artists on the Big Island and mainland. Jensen was a member of the Kailua Village Artists for 28 years and recently joined the Blue Sea Artisans.

The Blue Sea Artisans will host a featured artist’s reception for Jensen from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 13 at the gallery located within the Kona International Market. There will be pupu served and “Keikilani Lindsey” will be playing music for the reception.

The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call the gallery at 329-8000.
